Professional stain treatment
How professional carpet stain removal works in Newcastle
Professional stain removal starts by working out what the stain is, how old it is and what has already been put on it. There is no one product that shifts everything.
Coffee, blood, grease and urine are chemically very different, and wool and nylon carpets react differently to cleaning products. We choose a treatment that targets the type of stain and is safe for your carpet. It is then rinsed out so no residue is left.
You can book stain removal in Newcastle on its own for one or two problem marks. It can also be added to a full clean through our domestic carpet cleaning service.

Stain first aid
What to do in the first few minutes after a spill
What you do straight away affects whether a stain comes out, and these rules suit almost every spill.
Blot, don’t rub
Press a clean white cloth onto the spill to soak it up. Rubbing spreads the stain and frays the fibres.
Lift solids first
Scoop up anything solid with a spoon, working towards the centre so you do not spread it.
Work from the outside in
Always blot from the edge towards the middle. This stops the stain spreading into a wider ring.
Use cold water sparingly
A little cold water, blotted out, dilutes most fresh spills. Hot water can set stains such as blood and vomit.
Test any product first
If you use a cleaner, try it on a hidden spot first. Avoid bleach and anything that could change the colour.
Stain-by-stain guide
How to treat common carpet stains
If you are unsure, blot the stain and ask us before trying anything else.
| Stain | What to do first | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Red wine | Blot, add a little cold water, blot again | Salt, white wine and hot water |
| Coffee and tea | Blot, dilute with cold water, blot again | Hot water and rubbing |
| Pet urine | Press hard with kitchen roll, then dilute | Ammonia cleaners and heat |
| Vomit | Scoop up, blot, rinse lightly with cold water | Hot water and scented sprays |
| Blood | Blot with cold water only | Hot water, which sets the stain |
| Grease and oil | Blot off the excess, then call a professional | Lots of washing-up liquid |
| Candle wax | Let it harden, then lift off gently | Using an iron on an unknown fibre |
| Chewing gum | Harden with ice in a bag, then lift away | Pulling it while soft |
| Nail varnish | Blot gently while wet | Acetone or nail varnish remover |
| Ink | Blot with a dry cloth | Water and rubbing |
| Fake tan and makeup | Lift off the excess without pressing in | Rubbing or heavy wetting |
| Curry and turmeric | Scoop up and blot quickly | Hot water and bleach |
Strong dyes such as turmeric, ink, fake tan and hair dye can colour fibres for good. Quick professional treatment gives the best chance of improvement.
Returning stains
Why do carpet stains come back after cleaning?
A returning stain is usually caused by something left deep in the carpet. These are the most common causes in Newcastle homes.
Wicking
Residue deep in the backing rises to the surface as the carpet dries. Large spills and urine are the usual causes, and they need thorough extraction.
Product residue
Many shop-bought sprays leave sticky detergent behind, which attracts dirt and darkens the patch.
Too much water
Pouring water onto a spill pushes it into the underlay, which can cause smells and brown rings.
Which carpet marks cannot be removed?
Cleaning cannot remove marks where the fibre itself has been damaged. Stains can usually be lifted out of the fibres, whereas damage changes the fibre.
- Bleach and chemical spots: bleach, some acne creams and toilet cleaners strip out dye and leave pale or orange patches.
- Burns: hair straighteners, irons and cigarettes melt or scorch the fibres.
- Dye transfer: colour from a rug or clothing can bond to carpet for good.
A carpet repair or colour specialist can sometimes disguise these marks, and we point them out at the start so you never pay for treatment that cannot work. Fresh food and drink spills usually respond well. Where the whole room looks tired, adding stain treatment to a professional carpet clean is often better value, and our prices page explains the costs.
Pet urine
Can pet urine stains and smells be removed?
It goes deeper than it looks
Pet accidents are one of the most common carpet stains in Newcastle homes. A small surface mark can hide a much larger patch in the underlay.
Treating the backing
Urine treatment has to reach the backing below the pile. Repeated accidents may mean the underlay needs replacing to remove the smell fully.
Smell and stain are separate
Old urine can leave a smell and a yellow mark. The smell often improves a lot, even if some colour remains.
Suitable for pet homes
Our products suit homes with pets. Keep animals off treated areas until they are dry.

Stain removal FAQs
Carpet stain removal questions from Newcastle homes
Can't see your question? Get in touch
Can every carpet stain be removed?
No honest cleaner can promise that. Many stains come out completely and others fade a lot. We look at each mark in your Newcastle home and tell you what to expect before we start.
Should I use a shop-bought carpet stain remover?
Use them with care. Some change the colour of the carpet, and many leave a sticky residue that makes the area dirty again quickly.
Is it worth treating an old stain?
Often it is. Older stains can still respond well, especially if they have not been treated with harsh products. Tell us what has been used on it so far.
Can I book stain removal on its own?
Yes. One stain or a few problem marks can be treated without a full clean.
Do you remove stains from sofas and rugs too?
Yes. Fabric sofas and rugs need slightly different handling, which our sofa cleaning and rug cleaning pages explain.
Which areas do you cover for stain removal?
We cover all of Newcastle upon Tyne, plus Gateshead, North Tyneside, Sunderland and Durham. If you are elsewhere in Tyne and Wear, get in touch and ask.
