Home carpet cleaning

Carpet cleaning for houses and flats in Newcastle

Domestic carpet cleaning is a deep clean for the carpets in your home, from one bedroom to every room, stair and landing. It removes the dirt that builds up in the pile from muddy boots, spilt drinks, pets and everyday family life.

We clean all kinds of homes across Newcastle upon Tyne, from Victorian terraces in Jesmond and Tyneside flats in Heaton to family houses in Gosforth. Before we start, we look at your carpets, explain what to expect and agree a clear, no-obligation quote.

The practical side of having your home cleaned is covered below. If you are curious about how different carpet fibres are handled, we go into more depth on professional carpet cleaning.

Room by room

Which rooms need the most attention?

Each room gets dirty in a different way, so we adjust the clean to suit.

Lounges and living rooms

The lounge is usually the busiest carpet in the house, with worn walkways and food and drink spills. We pre-treat these areas first, and can clean your sofa on the same visit.

Bedrooms

Soiling is usually lighter in bedrooms, but there is more dust, especially around the bed. A deep clean lifts this from the base of the pile and leaves the room feeling fresher.

Hallways

Most of the grit from outside ends up in the hall, so the carpet near the front door often turns grey first. These areas get extra pre-spray and brushing.

Stairs and landings

Stairs are cleaned step by step with hand tools, with extra care on the front edges where wear is heaviest. A tired staircase can look very different afterwards.

Families, pets and allergies

Is carpet cleaning safe for children and pets?

Yes, as long as suitable products are used and the carpet is rinsed well. Tell us about children, pets or allergies when you book, and we will plan around them.

Young children

Toddlers spend a lot of time on the floor, so we use products suitable for homes and rinse carefully to reduce residue.

Pets

Pet hair, muddy paws and general pet smells usually improve a great deal after a deep clean. Urine that has soaked into the underlay needs separate stain and odour treatment.

Allergy sufferers

A thorough vacuum and deep clean remove much of the dust trapped in the pile. We are happy to talk through the products we plan to use.

Older relatives

We can clean in stages so there is always a dry route through the house. This helps anyone in your home with limited mobility.

Preparing for your clean

How to prepare for carpet cleaning at home

A little preparation helps the day run smoothly. The steps below cover what to do beforehand and what happens once we arrive.

  1. Before we arrive

Clear toys, shoes and anything fragile from the floor. Let us know about parking and any larger furniture you would like moved.

  2. Walk-through

We walk through each room with you and note any stains or worn areas. This is the time to point out anything that worries you.

  3. Protect and vacuum

Skirting boards, doorways and furniture feet are protected. We then vacuum thoroughly to lift loose grit and pet hair.

  4. Clean and treat

Walkways and marks are pre-treated before the main clean. The carpet is then cleaned with a method that suits its fibre.

  5. Aftercare

We groom the pile and explain how to help it dry. We also tell you when to put furniture back and let pets in.

Drying and aftercare

How long do carpets take to dry after cleaning?

Home carpets cleaned with hot water extraction usually take a few hours to dry. Thick wool carpets, or a cold and damp day, can slow things down, while low-moisture cleans tend to dry sooner. We will give you a realistic estimate before we leave. Moving out soon? Our end of tenancy carpet cleaning is planned so carpets have time to dry before handover. We give the same drying advice with all our carpet cleaning services in Newcastle.

Helping your carpets dry

  • Open windows if you can, and leave internal doors open so air moves through the house.
  • Run the central heating gently, especially in colder months.
  • Walk on damp carpet in clean socks only, and take care on the stairs.
  • Put foil or plastic blocks under furniture legs if you move items back early.

Keeping carpets clean for longer

Vacuum busy areas a few times a week and use doormats at outside doors. Blot spills straight away with a white cloth, and avoid strong carpet sprays that leave a sticky residue.

Home carpet cleaning FAQs

Questions from homeowners

Can't see your question? Get in touch

How often should I have my home carpets cleaned?

Most homes benefit from a professional clean every 12 to 18 months. Homes with pets, young children or allergy sufferers may prefer every six to twelve months. Hallways and lounges can be done more often than bedrooms if they wear faster.

Should I hoover before you arrive?

There is no need, as we vacuum thoroughly first. Clearing small items from the floor is more helpful.

Will you move my furniture?

We can usually move lighter items such as chairs, coffee tables and side tables. Heavy or fitted furniture, like wardrobes and pianos, is normally cleaned around. Mention anything specific when you request a quote.

Do you clean carpets in rented homes in Newcastle?

Yes. We clean flats, HMOs and rented houses across Newcastle, as well as owner-occupied homes. Tenants moving out can book a clean around their check-out date.

How much does home carpet cleaning cost in Newcastle?

Every home is quoted individually, based on the number of rooms and stairs, the carpet type and how dirty it is. Our carpet cleaning prices page explains what affects the cost in more detail.
